Extensive remodelling and extending of 1950s detached house over 3 floors.
Modern materials were used on the single storey extension with large aluminium framed sliding doors and a standing seam zinc roof. Open-plan contemporary interiors were introduced to update the original spaces. The completely glazed façade now opens up the ground floor living spaces to the South / Westerly mature gardens. Priorities were carefully analysed so the tight budget was used to its maximum potential.
Site notes:
To enable a fully glazed elevation, without intermediate structure, the roof edge was supported on a heavy duty steel beam spanning almost 9 metres. The sizable depth of the steel was camouflaged by detailing the eaves so that the roof joists were birdsmouthed around and the steel and the zinc gutter formed as part of the roof therefore minimising the overall profile.
