A contemporary home on a wooded site in Richmond, London. The brief was to create a highly insulated and sustainable family house with open plan living spaces and a strong connection with the mature gardens.
Simple timber framing techniques are used on the first floor with a series of oak ribs forming the structure. A central spine and bridge runs through the building to drop natural daylight onto the floors below.
Vertical cedar cladding helps integrates the building to the site with brick elements (on the lower level) anchoring the house to the ground.
Heating and hot water are provided by biomass energy via a wood-burning boiler, sheep¹s wool insulation is installed in walls and the timber framing and cladding is supplied locally from sustainable sources.
