In partnership with David Connor Design we developed this island holiday retreat for a sculptor and his family.

The design is deliberately simple and can be completed on site using simple building techniques. The timber frame construction is designed as a kit, to be fabricated off-site and transported by barge to the island. The whole house is then erected as a scaled-up timber meccano kit with everything down to the nuts and bolts, all supplied with the kit.

The focus of the house design is to capture the fantastic views over the sand and ocean whilst creating sheltered and shaded areas. Natural ventilation is promoted with a series of hurricane resistant hardwood shutters and sliding glazed doors along with high level openings and hatches. A 'look-out' platform on stilts sits above the house which also serves as a drawing studio.
